Xosé Antón González Riaño holds a PhD degree in Pedagogy from the University of Oviedo. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Teaching (1981) and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Education Sciences from the same University (1987).
From 1982 to 1994 he was a Primary Education teacher in different public schools. Since 1994 he has workedto the Department of Educational Sciences (Area of Didactics of Language and Literature) of the University of Oviedo, first as a part-time professor and since 1999 as a lecturer.
His areas of research focus on bilingualism at school, linguistic diversity and educational treatment of minority languages, sociolinguistic aspects immersed in language teaching and interculturality. In this sense, he has published several research papers in national and international journals.
He received the National Award for Educational Research (MEC) in 2005.
